Our approach looks like this:
The first sign that prostate cancer may be present is typically an elevation in PSA levels, which calls for additional testing. In most cases, a procedure known as a transrectal punch biopsy will be recommended. However, this test only has a detection sensitivity of approximately 30 to 35%.
At The Prostrate Center in San Diego, CA, we believe in doing better for our patients. Our goal is to give you the support and answers you need and deserve. That’s why we use the most advanced and effective options available so that our patients have answers quickly and accurately. The procedures we use have a detection sensitivity of 85 to 100%.
These options include:
The Prostate Center emphasizes excellence in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. Most facilities utilize testing that is less than dependable and may result in false positives or missed diagnosis. A false positive can lead to unnecessary fear and anxiety on the part of the patient—not to mention invasive procedures that are not actually needed.
With our services at The Prostate Center, you can have confidence that you will receive the following:
Our founder, Dr. Michael K. Stehling, is a pioneer in utilizing NanoKnife® technology in the treatment of prostate cancer. This highly effective and minimally invasive procedure avoids the common side effects plaguing traditional prostate cancer treatment methods—specifically, issues affecting erectile function and continence. Of the over 600 patients treated at the center, 0% have experienced incontinence and just 13.3% suffer from transient impotence. On the other hand, 100% of our patients have experienced successful treatments in terms of complete tumor ablation, while recurrence rates have remained consistently low.
In 2010, Dr. Michael K. Stehling was encouraged by his close friend and Boston University colleague, Dr. Ducksoo Kim, to found The Prostate Center. Dr. Stehling and Dr. Kim completed joint work in the 1990s at Harvard Medical School. Their experience in imaging technology and minimally invasive surgical techniques led them to see the need for change in the area of prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment. Whereas traditional methods are inexact and often involve major and destructive side effects, the modern therapies utilized at The Prostate Center are much more gentle and precise.
The efforts of an elite team of physicians, engineers, and scientists at the Institute for Imaging Diagnostics led to major advancements in prostate cancer diagnosis using MRI methods between the years 2001 and 2010. At that point—driven by the efforts of Dr. Gary Onik and the arrival of irreversible electroporation (IRE) treatment—3-D biopsies were progressively developed, and the team of anesthesiologists, urologists, and internists grown accordingly.
The Prostate Center continues to stand at the forefront of developments in the field of prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment. Our team takes an interdisciplinary and international approach to evaluating research, technological developments, and clinical applications. This allows us to provide our patients with access to the best and most advanced diagnostic services and treatments, minimizing side effects and providing that the original goal of our founders is possible: Prostate cancer does not have to mean a diminished quality of life.
We encourage you to contact The Prostate Center in San Diego for a consultation with our team at your earliest convenience. Our goal is always simple: We strive to ensure that every patient we see has access to the information they need to make the decision that is right for them when it comes to prostate cancer treatment.
